It's a good take on finding out if a page is indexed in Google. I've always used the site operator eg site:bitonwire.com/fasdfas but it's very unreliable if you have a large website and I think your way's much better. There is a third possibilty other than indexed and not indexed, which is a "We're sorry... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries..." that you should also look out for.
